Juvenile Crime Treatment

Law is a basic and essential way to insure daily working of life and to protect the equality between citizens. Society is created under the law system that is fair among all age groups and all phenomenon. When life is cruelly taken away, laws and regulations should be enforced to provide justice. In that case, child-killers should be treated in the same way as adult criminals. Age should not be the excuses of committing crime and causing injury. Child killers should receive maximum punishment if the severity of crime met the standard according to law system. This blog will explore the reasons of this statement.

Considering the severity of crimes, it is ludicrous to excuse a killer of a horrifying case because of his age. For instance, in the case of James Bulger’s killing, Venables and Thompson committed crime in an inhumane way that caused severe pain and damage to the innocence. They attracted the young boy Bulger, and took him to a distant railway, tortured and bullied him before ending his life through throwing a brick on his head. During their journey to the railway, Venables and Thompson managed to trick the witness by simply telling the witnesses that James was their brother, and he was okay. Their ability to manipulate the truth and pretend among public is at a improper level that should be punished and educated. Under these situations, if Venables and Thompson weren’t punished, it would make the law system seemed meaningless and powerless since it no longer protects the right of the citizens. The case of James shows that the power and ability of young child killers should never be underestimated. Not because of the young age, that it is impossible for them to plan and commit serious crimes. In this case, it is ridiculous to decrease the level of punishment because of a small age.

What’s more, people during a young age have extreme abilities in either mimicking or influencing others. The skill of mimicking others enables children to learn from the environment in a situation that whether it is morally correct or not is not considered. It is clearly seen that among most of the juvenile crimes, children commit crime in pairs. This is because children are at stages that lack determination and cannot differentiate between the virtue and the evil. Their behaviors are often affected after several times of persuasion. In this case, harsh punishment is extremely vital to diminish the sense of committing crime, and to stop criminals from influencing others.

Some people may argue that children are lack of consideration, committing crime are because of young age. However, being careless and impulsive are reasons for most of the crimes and shouldn’t be an excuse for child-killers. Furthermore, as a member of the society, citizens have to be responsible for all their behaviors and should think before behaving.

To summarize, I firmly believe that children should receive the maximum punishment if the severity of the crimes met the level. This is not only a fair treatment for the innocence, but also a method of warning the criminals and bringing them back to the correct path.
