All About Euthanasia

Euthanasia is a moral dilemma that continues to cause debate today. Some people hold the idea that Euthanasia is no different from murder and should never be made legal. Whereas those who are firmly for Euthanasia, believe that everyone has the freedom to choose how they want to live and die, thus Euthanasia should be legalised. This blog will be exploring both sides of this moral issue. Ultimately it will maintain the position that Euthanasia shouldn’t be made legal.

To begin with, Euthanasia helps people to escape the troubles and obstacles caused by inoperable disease. In other words, it provides people with an opportunity to kill themselves if they feel down or see life as being unliveable. The pessimistic attitudes toward life and troubles shouldn’t be given an opportunity to be further promoted. Although life can be difficult, there are ways to deal with issues and society is always developing, just like medicine is always developing. In essence, even though there might not a cure for some terminal illnesses now, does not mean that there won’t be any cure in the future. In that respect, euthanasia discourages patients from waiting for a cure and living a life.

Furthermore, it is illogical to believe that when people are in pain, it is the time to die. Life should never be about waiting for the day you die. No matter how much pain for you are in, you can still experience warm moments with family or delightful times with friends. Individuals should learn to cherish the precious moment in their lives and overcome obstacles rather than choosing to run from the problems they have in life, including death.

What’s more, it is said that Euthanasia eliminates patients from suffering. However, from injection of drugs to death, time is required. In this second or two, patients might feel severe pain. It is inhumane to torture people in their last seconds of life. This is no difference to what they were trying to escape. Euthanasia does not mean a painless death, we cannot be sure how much pain they are subjected to when they are administrated with the drug that puts them to death.

Some people may argue that people choose Euthanasia without having considered the implications of their choice. To be more specific, having the right to choose to be euthanised doesn’t mean it has to be chosen. Somehow, there are also possibilities that patients aren’t totally aware of the results. They are so medically unwell that it may be clouding their mental judgement. Not until the last few seconds of life that they may come to the realization of the severity of the event and feel deep regret.

To sum up, I believe that Euthanasia shouldn’t be legalized. Although there are no known cures for certain terminal illnesses now, healthcare is developing all the time, in the future there might be solutions to such diseases.
