Genetics Determination in the Road to Success

The debate concerning whether talent is enough to transform individuals into highly competent atheletes has been at the forefront of discussion. Some people believe that genetics determines how well athletes will do in life. Others holds the idea that perseverance overcomes all kinds of obstacles, difficulties and is more instrumental to one’s success in the field of sport than talent. This blog will explore both sides and ultimately agree that talent is important when it comes to becoming an excellent athlete.

Health and body conditions can be understood as a form of talent that determines how athletes will perform in sports. In this case, athletes body structure could be considered as innate talent, which means that they are genetically at an advantage than normal athletes and are more likely to win in contests. The truth is that genetic differences that enable atheletes to perform well can never be reached even with years of training.

In order to strengthen the point, scientific research about human fibrils states that people with slower relaxing fibrils have better durability, whereas those with faster contraction speed fibrils performs well in speed sport activities. This shows that genetics determines how people are going to perform and categorizes people into different sports. Furthermore, it is said that deliberate practices only explain 30% differences in performance, which means genetics must have influenced a larger percentage of difference. All these investigations led to the same result which is people are born to be athletes and cannot be trained to be athletes.

On the other hand, some people explain that people with certain special abilities will never be able to use themwell without training and practices. Through self-programs, practices and regular-routine exercises, those specialties can be trained to work in extreme situations and help benefit them in competitions. However, without those cells or talents, athletes will never be able to overcome the differences they have with those who are born with natural talents. It is true that perseverance helps people improve in an area, but what really makes an athlete outstanding is the genetic advantages that can never be replicated through training.

To sum up, I firmly believe that genes play a more important role in an athlete’s life. However, a fact that must be admitted is that both perseverance and genes builds up a successful athlete. Genes determine the extremes that can be reached, practices help athletes to reach the extreme.
